Different in every state here, but in Virginia, if you are arrested for over 100MPH on public road, you spend your 24 hours ("must be taken before a magistrate within 24 hours" ) in jail, and your car impounded.

If you have a good story and you're a first offender, the judge will probably not ban you, but there will be a hefty fine, the "points" will raise eyebrows as high as the premium at the insurance company.

You can go 80 MPH in a heavy car on a long downhill with a General Motors cruise control (doesn't shift gears down, just coasts) without really noticing it, but nobody goes 100 MPH without meaning to!
