I think the big issue is that Trump is too obviously a dream for Putin, as was Brexit, where our own govt refuses to investigate undue influence via social media.

In terms of weakening his enemies Putin has been the most effective Russian leader in history, probably on the lowest budget.

America can no longer claim to be leader of the free world without being a laughing stock amongst less democratic countries - that's the problem: it makes facing down the real barbarians much more difficult when you can't even agree on the facts of an election, behave like a civilised adult etc.

So, back to the newly independent 'mother of democracy' to teach the colonials by example once again eh?
