And, TuD, I agree, the questions asked are just useless. Which is probably why those are the ones selected to be asked.
Every now and then I come across politicians from other countries, NZ and Scotland spring to mind, who answer questions directly, answer the question.that was asked etc. Watching 'Thatcher: a very British Revolution' a month or two back, I was struck by the way she engaged with and answered questions thoughtfully and was prepared to develop her arguments live. Since Blair all I hear from English politicians is filibustering hot air: good questions are ignored by waffling off on a tangent.
