Back then, most owners were fairly normal people who travelled on motorcycles. They would say they had a 1958 Dominator or a 1961 Dominator, rather than Wideline or Slimline.

The name Wideline was invented by motorcycle pundits and enthusiasts, after Norton introduced their Slimline frame.
