Dale Walksler, founder of the "Wheels Through Time" museum in Maggie Valley NC passed away on Feb. 3rd. I went to his museum many times when it was in Mt. Vernon, Illinois behind his Harley dealership.
One time I was looking at a 4 cylinder Indian and he walked by. "Any questions?" he asked. Jokingly I asked, "What's it sound like?" Right inside the museum he turned on the gas, gave it 2 kicks and it roared to life. He blipped the throttle a couple of times, let it idle for about 15 seconds then turned it off. Another time when I pulled in the parking lot he was zipping around on a recently acquired 19teens m/c. He had a big smile on his face.
His museum was not a "pack them in close together" trailer queen collection. Most were original paint and many were in diorama settings of period shops, race settings and the like. He also had a great deal of memorabilia on display. Among the displays he had a old homemade airplane with a Harley motor and a very frightening looking Harley powered ice saw.
I haven't been to the Maggie Valley museum but hope to some day. Here is a link to it. https://wheelsthroughtime.com/museum/
Lock him up! (your bike, that is)
