Big money does ruin amateur sport. When we did the banger car races, we were average at it. Then a few local business people wanted to join in. Our cars were 50 quid bangers and then a few Jaguar 3.8 S types turned up. They had paid about 500 pounds for a perfect running car. That ended our racing. When starting hill climbs, our race car was the family runabout but with race tyres. Even had a child seat fitted. Then 3 young men bought Lotus elise cars to compete in the 1800cc class. Our Ford Orion then came 4th at every race. That ended the hill climbing. Started go karts but all karts were the same. That produced a lot of trophies for 1 of the boys. Finished with it all now as the cost was not compatible with having families. good fun at the time but fishing i a lot cheaper and you can catch fish with 30 pounds worth of tackle. No matter what the rich man spends, you can beat him.
