They obviously didn't have a working sprinkler system, but then neither did the NMM at the time of their fire.
Re the NMM fire, my mate Steve was a senior fire officer in the West Midlands Fire Service at the time and he worked on Fire Prevention. They had serious concerns about the lack of sprinklers and fire breaks in the roof space and pointed these out to the late owner at the time but he was not an easy person to deal with apparently and took no heed.
Sprinklers are not mandatory as fire escape features are so all they can do is advise and hope to persuade building owners to play ball.
By the way, re Grenfell, Steve's take on that was if sprinklers were installed, then the fire would most likely not have spread further than the kitchen where is started.
