On a bike with no electric start, fit the main fuse in the single return (earth) lead, close the the battery terminal, to avoid the sort of drama you get shorting the live terminal to the frame with your watch or with a spanner.

Admittedly, bikes without electric start have smaller batteries, but it’s still worth avoiding.
