For my sixteenth, my parents bought me a Smiths, allegedly self-winding ... I say "allegedly" because it needed hand-winding once a month ... when I also reset it because it couldn't keep time ...

The Smiths was also allegedly waterproof ... after guess what, I too bought a cheap stainless Seiko waterproof self-winder in Singapore, cost me the equivalent of a fiver. Curiously, it did exactly what it said on the tin - kept time, didn't let water in, self-wound. After I got home and had the Smiths fixed, I sold the Seiko to a mate ... stupidest thing I ever did ...
