Reminds me of the denizens of Emerald City in "The Wizard of Oz" singing:
"We get up at 12 and go to work at 1
An hour for lunch and then at 2 we're done
Jolly good fun!"
If I put a letter into the post office at Spout Spring addressed to someone in Appomattox 4 miles away, it goes from Spout Spring to Greensboro, North Carolina 120 miles south, and then back to Appomattox. It rides 240 miles and takes two or three days to go 4 miles.
I know that there are "volume efficiencies", but things like this HAVE to be part of the problem.
