Which was actually b*ll*x - he appeared to measure a part worn tyre.
After I saw that & it didn't ring true with my experience, I measured the tread depth on a new UK showroom Interceptor & found that the tread depth was "normal" i.e. around 6mm on the rear & not as Ryan stated. The replacement Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp I fitted when the OE wore out was no diferent to the OE WRT to tread depth.
I don't believe it would be cost effective for a manufacturer to do this for just the North American market (Ryan is based in Canada). Tyres are not like "starter" inkjet cartridges, where they just put less ink in the same tank - a new "shallow tread" mould would be required to make these allegedly "cheaper" OEM tyres & the saving on just a thinner tread layer would be minimal compared to the total cost of building a tyre.
Ryan fronts an entertainment channel for a motorcycle accessories retailer, nothing more.
