Hancock, mostly a comic actor, was top o the tree by the early 60s, but had a drink problem and possibly suffered from mental health problems. Having completed his finest work he was still striving for further improvement; that was just not attainable. As his drinking got worse (affecting his performances), his mental state deteriorated and he killed himself in 1968; aged 44,
I know from experience that there is a very fine line between enjoying a regular drink and alcoholism. Bear in mind that the showbusiness industry is often centred around pubs and hotel bars. The temptation is always there.
