Mmmm ... is the shuttered shop and lack of traffic indications that was a Sunday? Not being facetious, my first dispatching job from '79 was for a company just off the HHS and it was a 'mare getting along there most times and days of the week.
When I went back there years later, yes, Hounslow was grim, but it was too in the late 1970's/early 1980's - despite the ... ah ... ethnicity of the majority of the population, there was never a decent restaurant there. At least years later access off the bypass built 'round the back was good, I'd have hated to have taken a lorry along HHS or tried to park to do deliveries.
