Mild hybrid with 48 volt battery has an expected 1 mpg advantage over a non hybrid. I suppose my battery adds 20 BHP on an acceleration . When going downhill and cruise control on, the generator feels like you have the brakes on and that is the recovery. Out on an open road, the battery does nothing at all except start the engine. It is an advantage that there was a £3000 reduction for adding the hybrid option. It was totally free. Dont think i would pay £3000 to gain 1 mpg though.
I tried the self charging cars and could get 55 mpg out of a 2 litre petrol on a mixed run at lower than 70 mph . My diesel 1.6 Volvo used to achieve 60 mpg mixed running.
Most of the runs on the new Volvo achieve around 38 mpg if not too much time in towns. 42 mpg going up country at 70 mph max with some 45 mph A road driving.
Hybrids are not very economical at all in my opinion.
