Undoubtably so - I don't do subtle !
I take your point but, unfortunately, in the case of the phasing out of purely petrol & diesel fuelled cars in the UK I doubt a change of government will change the situation.
Our current bunch of Muppets-In-Charge are probably the "least bad" option when in comes to all this virtue signalling "green" BS. If the current Opposition Muppets eventually drag themselves away from in-fighting and navel-gazing long enough to come up with enough coherent & vaguely believable policies such that they could be electable, they are likely to be worse.
Add in the Euro-Muppets & their relentless "greening" agendas and - from a car makers POV - hybrids & electrics are where the investment is going. No point making cars that will not be registerable to use on the roads & they have been given a "deadline" for when that will happen - and it is not that far away. The car makers squealed when the phase-out was brought forward but, ultimately they will have to comply or they won't be selling anything.
Things may well be different for you over there - your car makers do not export much to the UK & Europe & if your Muppets come up with a different agenda / timetable then things may well take a different course to us. And for all we have left the EU, we are not a big enough market for the car makers to diverge significantly from the edicts of the EU in terms of setting standards - we will just align our requirements with theirs.
