Den Having looked into this issue (I am the GRA East Coaster specialist) the problem seems to have arisen some years ago when both bikes were with a certain motor cycle dealer, whilst I cant prove it, it looks as though one bike was more complete that the other (the bike now for sale) so the dealer re stamped the number from the real bike (a 1966 East Coaster) onto the frame of the other a 1961 25DC Sports Twin. and sold it on. The real bike which I understand was little more than a frame was sold on also and ended up with Tony East at the ARE Museum IoM. The number on that bike has been seen and deemed the original unmolested number. Tony has restored the bike to his usual high standard, but has not tried to register it either on IoM or mainland UK (many of his bikes still have mainland numbers. The bike is on display in his museum. Hope this makes thinks clearer. The DVLA Date of first registration corresponds with the date of the 'real' East Coaster September 1966
