The Ariel is prone to wet sumping as its a plunger pump same as Triumph get a bit of muck under the balls
Triple (T150, T160, Rocket 3) sump plate covers a filter around the scavenge pump pickup. While Triumph plunger pumps rarely allow wet-sumping, triples have a gear pump. However, the primary problem causing wet-sumping on triples is the non-return (or "anti sumping" ) valve wasn't well-designed, is also usually poorly-made and is difficult to get at to fix when the engine's in the frame. However, both problem and fix are long-known; engine out, it should just be done as a matter of course.
