I've never run out at home here in UK but I have in Americac with a borrowed Triumph TR5T. Tiny US tank, good for about 100 miles I was told. Yes, solo but not with 'er on t Pillion. On a weekend trip with friends I ran empty just in sight of a gas station, next day I got to a gas station on fumes. I was then kitted out with a secondary reserve (a quart iced tea bottle!), just in case. And I did use it for the last few miles back to base.
