Bank transfer is reversible if the buyer can convince his/her bank s/he's been defrauded. Unless your brother transfers the money to a foreign bank ... in e.g. Nigeria?

Plus - guessing your brother isn't going to keep "£5000 plus" in cash at home, he's going to take it to the bank at some point; deal done at the bank, your brother can deposit the cash there and then, no chance of being 'relieved' of it by a couple of the buyer's mates?
