Last week I attended the 7th Goosin' the Fox Rally, held at Greywell, which is near Hook, which is near Odiham, which is near (... etc., etc.). A splendid weekend (the odd thunderstorm notwithstanding), with Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Doombar on draught. Furthermore, I got the Long Distance award.
A pleasure riding on the local roads. "Typical,"
I thought. "The south east of England gets government funding to keep its thoroughfares in top condition, while the rest of the UK has to make do with cart-tracks."
Completely forgetting that I'd had the suspension extensively upgraded on my old banger shortly before the journey.
"Nothing from the past was sad...every incident from the past was laughable
for the simple reason that it was past, and that he had survived it without
mortal damage." (Alan Sillitoe.)
