Started second kick ran perfectly.
Checked the plug when I got back after a mixture of fast and slow roads - and it looked pretty good, certainly not weak so I am not going to mess with carburation for a while.
No problems hitting an indicated 60MPH, very reminiscent of my ETZ but it seems to pull from lower revs - but the TS engines do dont they?
Amazed that there was absolutley no surging on the overrun, all but got rid of it on my ETZ but no signs of it at all on this one.
Tickover is set to around 1500RPM, and it "dances" around a bit at tickover, but as soon as you are moving it is silky smooth, in fact I forgot just how smooth these bikes are.
So the problems look to be solved.
Fixing it had a lot to with our very Nigel B from this board who has sent me a lot of useful info as well as a couple of bits to see if it would fix the problem.
Putting the carb on the Nigel sent me made a huge difference, it would actually start / run without dying from a wet plug.
I also found an issue with the choke cable routing that could cause the choke to go partly on when you turned the bars. Thinking that was the sole cause of the problem, I re fitted my carb.....it died so there is definatley something wrong with my carb, exactly what I have no idea.
I also found out that the 3 different (same grade) plugs I was using had given up the ghost, they spark outside the engine, but put one in, the engine will fire / cough / backfire and even run for a bit. Guess being drenched in petroil several times it has "killed" them, so they are now in the bin.
So many thanks to Nigel B, and to all of you here who encouraged me.
I really enjoyed that short run this morning, and I hope there are many much longer ones to come.
Ringa ding ding......
