My employer bought a '79 VW T2 camper last year. I was asked to give it a look over when he got it home (having driven it over 200 miles home) - the newest tyres were 28 years old, the oldest 35 ! There was extensive cracking in the tread grooves & on the sidewalls, but the van had just passed an MoT. Seems that as long as there is legal tread depth on the tyre & the cracking is not deep enought to expose the cords then that satisfies the MoT requirements - no age checks despite the manufacturers recommendation of a maximum 10 year service life from date of manufacture. The VW got 5 new tyres before it was driven again !
