I lived under the Heathrow flight path too but not as close as you. I got aclimatized to the noise = the planes were frequent & just became part of the London background din from traffic, trains etc.
Here the worst thing is you can't hear 'em coming until they come over the hill & drop down to house level. Then we get the full 'benefit' of a jet fighter with afterburners at full chat at very close range.
We also get lots of helicopters. They come from the main UK pilot training school at RAF Shawbury to navgiate down the narrow twisty valley. Also there's Chinooks going to & from the Brecon Beacon ranges and we're close to a certain well known special forces HQ so get them 'playing' too (I'm expecting a lot of late night activity from them during the coming climate change conference as they'll be there undercover to protect all the visiting heads of state)
We also used to hear the sonic boom of Concorde as it accelerated to the sound barrier over the Bristol Channel = it wasn't allowed to do that over land. It was so punctual you could almost set your watch by it = BOOM, Oh its 4.30pm
