Your right whoever gave him his licence back wants kicking out...when I moved to Devon the firearms squad were at my house a week later because I had a licence with many guns I had to read out the weapon numbers to the officer he wouldn't come anywhere near to me so proved not loaded and quoted weapon and No..there were three Rifles that were Antique and not able to fire a round ..I was asked what and why I had them ..after explaining they left..the next evening two police cars and two Rangerovers arrived and took my three Rifles I was mug shot and fingerprinted and said I would possibly be charged with possession..this is Devon and Cornwall police ..after three months went to the local nick Okehampton and asked if I was to be charged ...answer no could I have my Rifles back as they were antique No sorry they have been cut up
The funny thing was the Rifles were given to me by the Scotland Yard museum for services to there identification of weapons and they had told D&C police not to be so bloody stupid as they only had to look closely at my documentation to see everything was legal and approved by the Met Police..I had to have doctors reports and police checks and belong to a proper club ( Ham & Petersham club ) the oldest club ..so we'll and truly vetted..after the Dunblane shooting the rule were changed you can only own a firearm if it is kept at your place of shooting ie Club..and as before you have to have a reason for each weapon on your ticket that is type of shooting ie competition, classic ,historic,combat,..
The rules for owning Shot guns weren't altered except for not being auto and regulated to number of rounds in a magazine..but anybody can apply you don't need a Doctors cert to say your sound of mind you have to keep the weapon in a locked gun safe.. the reason the rules weren't changed as many MPs went shooting shotgun with there cronies..there you are history..
All my weapons were handed over at the amnesty I was compensated and it cost the tax payer a lot of money..example £1 or £1.50 a round and 50p for every empty case..I had a lot of ammunition and when I went to Middlemoor police station I asked for an escort and asked why..obvious if I wanted I could have started a war in Exeter...I also was a registered Firearms dealer..
That chap should never be given his licence back and at our club we would have a say as to if we wanted a particular new member judged on attitude and attitude..
