We had the garage broken into while on holiday back in spring 2019. Got back home to find the side door broken and lights on. Nothing taken (apart from a pair of safety reading glasses) but at the time I had a Panther, a 650cc long stroke single with a hell of a kick back if you got it wrong. It had been fiddled with, kickstart rubber was hanging off, fuel was on. We reported the break in but the police didn't exactly leap into action. Let's be honest, chances of any arrests were slim.
There was a strange object lying beside the bike which wasn't mine Took me a day to realise it was an e-cig vaper. I reckon the Panther had had a kick back and knocked it out his pocket (hope it hurt). At this the police lept into action, came to collect it for DNA analysis and a couple of months later (yes it does take that long) got a match on the database and arrested my burglar. He was due for trial in April 2020, he's still due for trial in the Covid backlog but one day I expect to attend a court.
So the moral is, if you want an arrest, keep a Panther in the garage.
