Last week I bought a new thermostat so thought I would fit it today, all went very well, as it is easy to drain out the coolant via a tap at the bottom of the radiator.
After draining the coolant, off with the thermostat housing hose, then just 2 screws and the housing comes off - would have been ok if one of the screws had not sheared off.
Long story short, managed to get the screw out after about an hour of applying lubricant, holding onto the stub with some mole grips - lucky the screw twisted off leaving a bit I could grip on.
All ready to re assemble, but will have to go down to VW garage tomorrow as the screw is like a very coarse PK screw that screws into a plastic housing.
So a "simple" half an hour job has taken the best part of 2 hours, ah well, how often have you set out to do a "simple" job that turns to be a long one?
