Good lord, I actually met the man! My son and I were staying in Geof Staples' house in Kirkmichael just across the street from the museum one Manx GP week.
He had a beautiful Matchless Model X on display, which is what the one in my shop SHOULD look like if I had any sense and ambition, and we talked about it ...
