Funny you should say that Andy - I came to the conclusion after riding the first Meteor that I would be better off with one of my TS250/1s. I could also do a full ground up rebuild & refinish of one for less than half the price of a Meteor.
The TS will hold 60 under most conditions, 70 usually and top out at just over 80. I have done 385 miles at one sitting on mine (Ardnamurchan to Huddersfield) in dreadful weather conditions & wasn't too dreadfully uncomfortable ! Mind you, it did only return about 45mpg in very challenging conditions - a gale strong enough to require changing down while going downhill on the M6 to maintain 60. Having ridden a Meteor for a few miles on a de-restricted dual carriageway, I would not relish doing that journey on one - nothing really in reserve at 60.
That RE are selling so many suggest that the Meteor meets many riders expectations - I am just not sure who these riders are ?
