I sincerely hope it's the ignition switch.

However, I remember an old post by A65Bill, dealer couldn't "solve" an electrical problem - i.e. the workshop computer couldn't solve it - Bill used his Mk.1 eyeball to find the battery's earth connection to the body was corroded ...
