My feeling is that the era of truly big, single purpose tourers: ST/RT/GT/FJR is over. I see endless big trailie bikes and a lot of Thaiumph twins doing the touring role these days (loads of both in South Wales today) and I can see some advantages to them.
I tried to sell my own immaculate R100RT. Again low miles, 3" thick service record and must be one of the best available. Two viewings, one test ride, one derisory offer. In my view you are unlikely to get a better bike for actual touring with its inherent simplicity meaning built in fixability should you ever get stranded but...
...the world has moved on to new, electronic delights and I do think big old tourers are now seen as dinosaurs. Today I saw a whole group of six Thaiumph twins touring together. Must be mates that bought the same model. Weird.
Having said that, it only takes one dinosaur hunter for you to sell it!
