So here we are 16+ years later concluding that range, charging times and price are all wrong. What I find completely unacceptable is the way that the media, via so called motoring journalists, still skip over these problems in their attempts to sound knowledgable and to convince us that electric cars are a great product. Even the manufacturers adverts are not honest, except for the small print at the bottom of the screen which makes a vague reference to the range in real world driving "may" vary from the test results quoted. Didn't VW recently get fined millions of pounds for doctoring their emissions test results...here we go again I guess.
Batteries are limited by the laws of physics and if you want more power and/or more range then something has to be sacrificed. Overnight charging sounds great but eight hours for a full charge...really those laws of physics are so inconsiderate. Indeed garages are now being remodelled to provide coffee shops so that those using so called high speed charging facilities can relax, and buy expensive coffee, while they wait for those damned laws of physics again.
Price? Well I suppose they consider £40K or upwards is a price range for the average working family.
Rant over.
Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.
