I was just referring to the oft-quoted saying that the HD 45 was "The motorcycle that won the war".

I don't know why anyone would say that. Not one American in 1000 knows anything about the role of HD motorcycles in WWII, including motorcyclists.

Certainly the WDM20 and its Brit partners were more extensively used and could lay claim to the same thing.

Unless it's just BS Harley ad copy, it's probably one of those things that everyone swears was said once, like "Elementary, my dear Watson" or "Beam me up, Scotty" that was never actually said....
