Happy Birthday indeed. In 1968 , my late Uncle, who worked for the railway all his life, took it from Norwich to Peterborough. He passed away early this year at 93.
It came to Norfolk last year, I was lucky enough to enter the cab through the tender corridor, sit in the drivers seat, hold the regulator lever, and play a tune on the whistle.
Speaking to the driver and fireman, the problem seems to be getting some decent coal.
When my uncle was a fireman prior to becoming a driver, He did Norwich to Liverpool St and back most days, many times on the Oliver Cromwell, seven tons of coal for the round trip.
