I did my time a few years ago as a consultant looking at autonomous vehicles and their simulated test environments. In the real world of testing though, the driverless pods in Milton Keynes were being let loose and at that time, due to H&S, they had to have someone in a Hi-Vis vest walking in front of them.

I always thought it a bit ironic that in the UK the Red Flag act was repealed in 1896 but 120 years later, it was back in effect re-instated with not much more than a colour change.
