Yesterday evening I decided to head off for a pub bike meet in Chiddingly near Eastbourne. I have some old race day mates who go there so thought be nice to meet up. It's just over an hour without traffic so time I had got out of Londonstan I arrved around 6.30pm. Took my Bandit as it was just starting to rain when I set off but lucky stayed dry for the journey there and back. I have to use the M25 and come off at Godstone and on to the A22. I have to say what a bloody awful pot hole covered road. Spent most of my ride trying to avoid them which did spoil the nice warm evening run. It was to get worse as the time I left for my homeward journey it was getting dark and after about ten miles became very dark. This is where it got very dangrous as now I cant spot the bad road conditions. Started to worry about my poor bikes wheels and suspension as the journy progressed. I went to overtake a car and that's when I thought I was going down. I hit the biggest deepest pothole I have ever come across. The bike tried to throw me off as I lost complete control and the bars were nearly wrenched out on my hand and the bike going in the direction the pot hole was taking it. I don't know how I got away with it but somehow I did thanks to the lightness of my Bandit. My feet came off the footrests so the bike was in control. I think the car I was overtaking must have had a soiled underpants problem because I sure did. Never been so glad to leave that disgusting dangerous road and get back onto the M25 in one piece. Today I am suffering with both my thumbs and wrists very painful. How do the local area councils get away with these death trap roads. I wont be riding out in the dark anymore its just worth the risk. Cant wait to get back on a nice safe race track.
