When this house was built, the kitchen and rainwater all went into the one drain which is then run into the sewage drain. The front of the house, rainwater was channeled under the pavement and ejected onto the road until they raised the road surface covering the pipe so no water could get out. Everyone then had to cut the downpipe and run it to the front gate and onto the pavement.
Modern plastic drains do not have these complex glazed pipe shapes or the cement that catches the grease so plastic systems rarely clog.
My sewage drains have had one blockage in 40 years when the next house put something down the toilet. I notice now that the next door neighbour has put paving over the shared manhole so i hope it stays clear.
These old houses have all water waste going into one place. Basins, bath, toilet, rainwater, dishwasher, washing machine, kitchen sink. I use much less water now i have a shower tray so maybe not so much soapy water to help dissolve the fat.
The grease interceptor is very low cost so much cheaper than renewing drains and will be better for the main sewer system if the fat is collected and in the bins
