Jaguar are building this giant battery works in Bridgwater. Jaguar has also been refunding people after the cars could not reach their destinations and charging points on their information screen included points in private houses. One new owner took 3 days to get to Cornwall from up North and 3 days to get back. The journey involved quite a few toes on the back of a truck as the owner could not reach the charging points or they were out of use.
I feel that when the Bridgwater plant has its 55 million pound grant, they will start building it and then it will be abandoned and possibly convert into an Amazon base.
Chaz, the larger Toyotas have a 2.5 litre petrol engine and motor and closer to 260 bhp.
During my research on the hybrid petrol cars, i found that the engines under 2 litre used far more petrol than the larger engine. I sampled about 15 cars and ran each one for about 50 miles on the same route then took a reading for fuel use.
The Toyota HCR with the same mechanicals equalled the Corolla. The Lexus with 2 litre and battery produced a little under the Toyota but used 20 percent more petrol on the route.
Dealers were good to offer these extended drives and those who would not allow it were discarded from the list. These modern cars are incredibly well built for economy although the purchase cost is very high and it would take about 50,000 miles to break even on the added cost of a hybrid.
Of course, Audi and Toyota offered a 20,000 pound discount on their full battery powered cars. Most of the battery powered Audi cars are stored at Exeter cattle market in long rows. Over 100 sit there. The Toyota BZ4X is a huge electric car and with discount, can be bought for a small car price but will have no value at 5 years old.
The Corolla with the extra glass roof and metallic paint is near 37,500 pounds. It will not lose too much in 3 years. The Volvo was 42,000 back in 2020 and sold at 28,000 after 3 years. My Nissan lost half its new cost. The Volvo was still the best car although using 36 mpg during 25,000 miles of mixed driving and lost the lowest amount of recent buys. A replacement Volvo would have been over 50,000 pounds so i passed on that one this time.
Next car will possibly be another Toyota given the quality it has.
