What is true is the fuel consumption of a typical brand new 1.5 engined Chinese car is about 35mpg and a good Japanese 2 litre engined car will achieve over 60mpg with a massive difference in emissions.
A low cost Chinese bike will last a fair time and parts are low cost compared to any other maker. If it blows up after 5 years, it will have served quite well. The BMW will still be running in 20 years.
Volvo is now Chinese owned but mine was built near Britain and had no problems. The 3 scooters i had to fix for 12 Months were not too bad quality considering all were over 10 years old. All parts were available within 24 hours.
If you look at the Chinese EV cars, they are just plain ugly and there are about 12 dumped at Exeter cattle market hid away beside the Audi Q4s and Toyota EVs just sitting there with no buyers.
Hopefully, the Chinese bike will run well for a few years at half price and cheap parts, not a bad idea. Keep an eye on it Stu and see how he fairs with it.
Would i buy a Chinese made bike or car ? No . But if i wanted a 50cc runabout scooter, of course i would as they do run well up to about 3,000 miles before the belt breaks and the clutch rollers fall apart. Still just an easy job if you have a mechanics rattle gun to take off the nut holding the centrifugal clutch together. I go very good at stripping the engines but by far the biggest wear was the clutch. Cause is the 3 x 16 year olds racing the little bikes.
I heard the Chinese Polestar car brand has gone broke in the last week. The car looked like a Volvo copy and a few around my area. I doubt they will have any second hand value now
