I had a gas hot water system underneath the house for years; then when it needed replacing, it was mounted on the wall outside.
One morning I looked out of the window and saw a stream of water shooting across the yard; the system had caught on fire and exploded, scorching the wall.

If it had still been under the house, I think the whole place would have gone up in flames.
