Likewise! Parents riddling the kitchen range & filling it's fuel hopper with anthracite are sounds of my childhood. My bedroom was above the kitchen so always warm.....or sweltering in summer!
I can also remember the coal for the open fires being delivered in vast boulders that the merchant broke up with a pickaxe & sledgehammer before shovelling it off his truck. He'd deliver a ton and it would be 3 or 4 big lumps until he got to work!
