I said on Wednesday that I might go out for an evening spin, so I decided to take the KH out for one last spin before I try and sell it again.

Went on one of my usual routes, and came upon a little back lane I had never ridden before, in fact had never noticed the road before, the high intensity headlamp bulb that I had fitted during the summer months is certainly impressive, a lot better that the original filament lamp.

Although I was on a back lane it was quite decent to ride and the only buildings along the way were a farmhouse, and a pub that I never knew existed – the Bluebell Inn, even more surprising was that they seemed to be having a bike night, probably about 20 or so bikes there so I decided it would be rude not to stop for a chat.

Honestly it was like going back to the early 70’s nearly all British bikes, a couple of lovely Tritons, a nice looking BAS B50, a few Nortons, and a couple Jap 4’s including a very nice Z900. Anyway I got talking to a bloke named Tony, turns out it was a fund raising event.

Tony had a very tidy 350 Gold Star, and was quite proud of the numberplate FUK 73K, (did not think DVLA allowed swear words).

After a pint and a few chats with a few other people everyone started riding off eventually it was just Tony and myself left, I jokingly said I’ll give him a race on the KH and see if the Goldie 350 is quicker than the KH.

He reckoned he would beat me easily, and said race to him to the farmhouse that I passed a couple of miles back as that was where he lived, I agreed as it was in the direction of home for me, in fact he said pull into the farm (because he would beat me easily) and stop for a cup of tea, being such a lovely evening I said OK.

Anyway, long story short, he beat me easily I lost site of him once he pulled away, the KH seemed quicker up to about 50 or so but after that the Goldie just left me behind, which was a bit disappointing – so perhaps it is a good plan to get shot of it.

When I got to the farm, I could not see any sign of Tony so I rang the doorbell, a bloke came to the door, and I told him that I was looking for Tony, who I was speaking to a little while ago at the Bluebell pub.

The bloke looked at me very oddly, and told me to wait. He returned shortly afterwards with a photo of Tony taken with FUK 73K, “this Tony” he said, “yep that’s him” I said.

At this point the bloke got a bit upset and told me that Tony had passed away about 20 years ago, about the same time as the Bluebell Inn was demolished…………..well it is Haloween......Vincent Price laugh.....
