Having the option of "Non of the above" would allow some small expression of discontent to be recorded that spoilt ballots don't specifically.

Due to the timing of the last snap election I was effectively disenfranchised (happened while I was away, postal vote didn't arrive before I left & nobody I could use to cast a proxy vote in person) - first election I have not voted in since I was old enough to vote. Not that my vote would have changed anything - our last useless Labour party apparatchick stood down (at last ! - good riddance Barry Sheerman). but Labour could put up Dolly the Sheep here & the preserved carcass would get elected.

Current set of muppets don't have any real mandate in terms of votes cast - got in more because supporters of the other lot stayed at home (and who could blame them ?). Maybe time to change to a hybrid system that takes into account the proprtion of votes cast as well as First past the post as some other countries do. Nothing will change for the better while the current system is in place.

I am coming to think that what currently passes for "Western Civilisation" is in it's latter days (like the fall of the Roman Empire) - just seems to be imploding everywhere. 2 billion Africans under age 30 could well replace the heathen hords that did for the Romans !
