WRT respoking the wheels - I could be wrong about this, and it probably depends how "anorak" you want to get about "originality", but check the type of spokes originally specified.
In the spares that I purchased from Mark Dicker's estate was a complete K4 front hub and TLS brake assembly - a popular "upgrade" for the MZ SLS drum. Not in a rim, but with some spokes attached that kind of looked "original". These are "single butted" not parallel - the lower section including the bend where the spoke threads into the hub is thicker section that the top 2/3 (ish), which is reduced section to allow the spokes to cross without touching.
The Thai made "pattern" K4 spokes supplied by Wemoto that I have used to lace the hub into an MZ alloy rim are parallel not single butted, so not like-for-like with the spokes that came with the hub. They fit OK in an MZ rim and were cheap (under a tenner a set including nipples), well finished & do the job for me. But if they are not the same type as OE then the rivet counters would be sure to point that out to you !
I did unintentionally ruin a GT750 restorers day many years ago. I bought a substantially complete GT750J from a small ad that lead to a very large house on the outskirts of Leeds. In the outbuildings there was a large collection of immaculately restored bikes, the latest of which was a GT750J - the bike I had gone to look at was one of 2 or 3 "donor" bikes that had been bought to feed the restoration with parts & were being sold on as the resto was finished. I just happened to notice that the unrestored bike had double butted spokes on the double sided front drum brake but the restored one had been rebuilt with parallel spokes & innocently commented on this. The guy I was dealing with was not the owner but someone he employed full time to restore the bikes & his face fell when he realised that the restoration was not "as original" and commented that the wheels would have to be rebuilt again with the correct parts. The difference hadn't been noticed before I mentioned it.
During the course of collecting NOS parts for the money pit , I happened upon two sets of genuine Suzuki NOS spoke kits (one front, one rear) which were double butted spokes. Both sets found ready buyers on Ebay when I finally gave up on the lost cause.
If you were in any doubt about the wisdom of buying a really nicely rebuilt bike vs. a "doer up", have a look at David Silver or CSMNL for the price of NOS parts for your K4. Be sitting down when you do so !
