The 'Canary Girls'? Was that a reference to the colour of their skin working with the chemicals they did? It was mentioned on a programme I recently saw on PBS/Yesterday.
Sort of, on the same topic - was reading up on local (I now live in the Hereford/Worcester area)history. During WW1, there was a big munitions factory in the Hereford area. At one stage they employed a large number of Irish women. There was much conflict between them & the local ladies (possibly due to 1916 Irish/British politics?) resulting in them being sacked, & having to be escorted to the railway station under police guard.
