Apparently not, according to the nice chap at DVLA...
It's 'not registered for road use' which is the first time I've ever seen that on a V5. The PO couldn't recover the original registration but got an age related one the usual way via a club dating cert. The age-related registration number was issued but the bike was recorded as first registered in 1984.
The DVLA assures me I can ride it anyway and a letter and photocopy of the dating cert will sort it all out in a few weeks!
