I think the most I ever sold in a year, about twenty years ago, might have been five but I did start that year with five in the garage. I'd decided I wanted to own the big four I'd lusted after when I was poorer: CBR1000, ZZR1100, FJ1200 and whatever big tank Suzuki were making. I added the obligatory T140 for classic status. Two bikes is ok in my world, five was ridiculous because I only rode the one nearest the door and there was always 'something needing doing' which ate all my wages - new rear tyres, chains and sprockets, rotting silencers and collector boxes being the big culprits! It was fun going very fast though. I'd already had lots of practice at being poorer so I got rid of them!!
In an especially indecisive year I might sell three but usually they last at least a year before they go unless I end up hating them in five minutes - the last one like that was a Ducati 900SSie. One 60 mile ride and I couldn't move my neck properly for a week and writing on the whiteboard at work was hard because my wrist hurt so much!! I had a look back and see I've sold two bikes in the last year - the R100ST and the S8 that came with the knackered clutch which the PO 'honestly didn't know about'. I suppose I could probably claim a large tax rebate if they ever suggested I was a trader! As I don't go on expensive holidays, and my other hobbies: reading, walking, running, swimming and cycling are basically free I've been lucky enough to try out many of the bikes I always wanted but couldn't afford. Ironically, now I can afford them I barely ride them. I think the V Strom, perhaps the best bike I've ever owned, might have done 600 miles this year. Pathetic!
