Its more a question of suitable tyres. Few are intended for anything other than perfect tarmac.
Even expensive 4x4s have such road orientated tyres they don't work on damp grass let alone mud or snow regardless of any fancy traction control, diff locks, etc.
Of course there is a down side to "suitable" tyres = they're noisier, give poorer mpg and on tarmac wear more quickly.
And for those reasons I'm happy to have "unsuitable" tyres on my 4x4 because I'm fortunate enough that I can chose not to go out & drive on snow or mud
