So, being stormy and motorway drive, i managed 48 mpg on the way up and 37 mpg on the way back down so a diesel would have been more economical on this journey Not helped by strong winds and rain all the way there and back which will drain a bit more fuel than driving a dry road.
Still good for a 2 litre 200bhp petrol engine though with auto gearbox. Normally, this journey, dry and calm, i would get around 52 mpg as very little battery powered and only in the traffic jams and going into the venue plus all lights, heater and wipers running to sap engine power.
Noticable was the Nissan Leaf driving without lights or wipers and having battery range anxiety as the Nissan is lucky to cover 80 miles on a charge if using lights and heater. There was also a Hyundai Ionic that could not have lights or wipers on and i expect his heater was also off looking at the fur coats the driver and passenger wore. EV is not so good on wet motorways except Teslas which seemed to be unaffected.
