It's not the correct dynamo for the bike, being an E3L type rather than the short E3 whatever that should be fitted. I've also been running it with a solid state regulator to give 12V. However, it's one of "those" regulators which has a 2 amp drain until the revs get up. However, the kicker is that the armature is actually bent, so the drive sprocket wobbles off-centre as it turns making the drive chain tighten and loosen. I can see the runout; it's about 1mm, I reckon. It's an armature with a taper for the sprocket, except the threaded end isn't there and I guess the shaft has been drilled and tapped.
How much work is involved in replacing an armature and brushes - is it an easy DIY job? And thing else I should do if I get bold? Should I go the whole hog and get 12V armature and field coil?
So many questions...
