Society has changed particularly over the last 60 years or so. Back in the 50's and 60's working men, in particular, used to have their evening meal and then go to pub for a couple of hours. Those who regularly finished later often stopped on the way home for a pint or two. Then on Friday night, lunch time and evenings on Saturday and Sunday pubs were very busy with wives often in attendance on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Then we all started to become financially better off and watching TV adverts and so started a lifestyle revolution. Add in the mass purchase af crs, and then the introduction of the Breathalyzer and slowly but surely the pub culture changed. Meals rather than just steak pies became available, and this eventually created so called Gastro pubs.
All of this had an effect on costs, along with the desire for larger profits by the breweries. So this where we find ourselves now. gastro pubs and their ilk are booming, drinking in pubs has in fact diminished. Finally we have to recognise that you can buy in your local supermarket the same beer as you get in your local pub, but often for 25% to 30% of the price you pay in the pub, and no risk of being breathalyzed etc.
There are two certainties in life...death and the fact that change will continue to occur.
Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.
